OUR HISTORY

In the early winter of 1968, Frederick Rollins and a group of interested citizens met to start a sheltered workshop in Kirksville, Missouri.

Believing a business employing people with disabilities could be productive, these citizens soon established a non-profit corporation. The workshop they formed, now called Community Opportunities, Inc., opened its doors in March of 1969, occupying a building rented from the local American Legion chapter. Persons with disabilities receive real paychecks for real work provided through contracts from local or regional industries. In the beginning, the workshop employed seven persons, and their first contract was from Hollister Inc., of Kirksville.

Today, 70 employees work at Community Opportunities, Inc. Community Opportunities, Inc. has over 18,500 square feet that was dedicated in 1976. For the most part, the building was financed through donations and workshop profits. The building has working areas, storage areas and truck docks to help facilitate the moving of materials in and out of the workshop. There is ample room at the workshop for future expansion.

The employees  continue to complete  work for a regional industry as well as recycling of Cardboard and mixed paper. We service over 150 clients in the Kirksville and surronding area. We also offer the best and most reasonable car detail service around.
